HOW TO DEAL WITH AN eBAY SUPPLIER

Doing business with an eBay supplier is the easiest of tasks. Developing a good rapport with a reliable supplier simplifies this process as the wholesaler will make sure the retailer receives quality goods that are delivered punctually. However, locating such suppliers and learning how to deal with them takes drive and confidence. The following are some helpful hints on how to deal with an eBay supplier:

Learn How to Bargain

After finding an eBay supplier, the retailer must work out a plan on how to bargain with him/her. Dealing with a wholesaler who has been in the business for a long time and who is doing well will be hard as they often are not open to negotiations on their prices and contract terms. A good way to open negotiations is to offer the supplier hard cash upfront or promise to place large orders. Asking for a reduction on prices is acceptable, but the retailer should be reasonable or the eBay supplier will stop all dialogue.

Go Over Contracts Meticulously

After striking a deal, the retailer should have a contract drawn up. Make sure it is complete and clear to prevent ambiguity later. The contract should clearly state the cost of goods and shipping, dropshipping charges, delivery and payment times, how payments should be made and the supplier’s policies on damaged/imitation goods.

Be Professional at All Times

Any dealings with the supplier should be professional at all times, even when mailing or telephoning them. The retailer’s introductory communication should be formal in tone. The retailer should introduce him/herself by full name, adding the company’s name and his/her designation. This lends the retailer an air of seriousness both as a buyer and businessperson.

Nurture the Relationship: It is vital for retailers to nurture the rapport he/she has built with the eBay supplier. A note of thanks when a shipment is received or prior to receipt will be appreciated. Wishes sent on festivals and birthdays also help to maintain the relationship. The retailer should also occasionally reach out to meet suppliers who work out of or near his/her geographic area.

Be Loyal: Placing orders with the wholesaler on a regular basis establishes the retailer as a loyal customer. This may result in the retailer receiving some good offers by way of discounts on goods and shipping charges, and even faster delivery of the goods.

Locating a reputable eBay supplier is very challenging.  So, once retailers finally find the ideal eBay sources, it is important to develop and sustain a rapport with them that will ultimately benefit their business.
